State Chemist Lab

Testing feed, fertilizer & pesticides

The primary mission of the State Chemist Laboratory is to provide analytical support services to NMDA's Agricultural & Environmental Services (AES) Division. Among this division's roles is ensuring that New Mexico's citizens who use feed (including pet food) and fertilizer receive quality products; ensuring a level playing field for manufacturers; and promoting responsible  environmental stewardship. In support of this, the Feed & Fertilizer Chemist analyzes regulatory samples collected by  inspectors across the state and performs commercial testing for manufacturers and the public on a fee basis.

The Pesticide Chemist analyzes samples of pesticide formulations and tank mixes to determine if they meet claims. The lab also tests for pesticide residues in environmental samples in support of compliance/misuse investigations. The lab is accredited by US EPA and adheres to a strict Quality Assurance/Quality Control plan.
