Food, Animal & Plant Programs

NMDA provides consumer and industry protection to ensure a safe and secure food supply and a uniform and fair marketplace.

Animal programs and services include: diagnostic analysis of animal specimens, inspection and analysis of animal feeds, and providing education to industry.  For questions regarding livestock transportation and disease control, please contact the New Mexico Livestock Board.

Plant programs and services include: apiary inspection, nursery licensing, and plant quarantines to mitigate the introduction and spread of pests; marketplace surveillance on fertilizer/soil conditioners and seed products to ensure compliance and label guarantees; and noxious weed prevention through providing noxious weed lists and methods of control for New Mexico.

Food programs and services include: Agricultural biosecurity education and preparedness and the inspection of dairy farms and dairy processing plants to ensure a safe and clean product.
